WIP Wednesday: something new

Something spring-inspired for my Etsy shop....

WIP (day after) Wednesday

Feeling a bit like the White Rabbit lately, hectic, hurried, a little off kilter and late late late lol Such is life, I suppose.

 

So my WIP this week.... it's a bit all over the place. Please forgive the mess that is my workspace, it looks messy but there is a method to the madness... perhaps I'm more akin to the Hatter than the White Rabbit? Either way...

I've got several projects going on at once. That's the way I like it, I tend to be erratic in my crafting which keeps me from getting bored. Really, I'm just the type of person who gets sidetracked by shiny things and sparkly new ideas. I can't count the number of times I've been mid-sentence and interupted myself with "ohh shiny" or "ohhh pretty" or "hey a squirrel!"

Some of my projects are repeats, like the Math Gnomes for my Etsy shop. Some are new, like this butterfly project. Some I'll be lucky to post to my Etsy shop, because it will mean my kids didn't lay claim to them. I wonder how many other Etsians have the problem of making something totally awesome with the intent of selling on Etsy, only to have the kids fall completely in love with it.  I've taken to making duplicates of the items I know they'll love.

I'm late with this post, I know. That's how it goes when we're sick though, things get put on back burners, we get side-tracked and rhythm snags.  I thought about this post throughout the day on Wednesday and just never found the time or ambition to actually post it. I knew I wanted to tie my gratitude post and my WIP together, so here's the WIP I finished on Wednesday!

I love WIP Wednesdays :-) This week I have a couple to share.

 

Kairi's Gnome hood is coming along.

 

I'm working on an advent spiral for our seasonal table. I don't know if I'll get it done for us to use this year, but it will be a lovely addition to future holidays.

 

I must apologise for the horrible photo quality, my camera didn't want to play nice. This is an ornament I made for the Yule tree. Pretty simple, but I like it.

 

Finally finished the set of math gnomes for an Etsy customer. Now I have about a dozen rainbow gnomes in the works.

WIP Wednesday: Gnome hood, etc

I love Wednesdays, looking at all the blog posts of what others are creating, it's so inspiring! Here is mine for the week.

 

 Last night I cast on the Gnomey Hood (Lyalya hoodie) I'm knitting for Kairi. Details are here on Ravelry.

A smaller, purple scrolled paper ornament similar to the rainbow ornament I recently blogged about.

Our seasonal table. I'm still not happy with where the table is in the house, though we pass it every day, it's very out of the way and I want it to be a central, focal point in our home. I'll be moving it soon. I has to post this though because I love the branch that hangs above it. It showed up in our yard a couple days ago (thank you faeries, it's wonderful) and I love the twistiness of it, it's just magical.

A start to our ornament collection

It's our goal this year to make all the ornaments for our Yule tree (aside from the lights, that's just not practical and candles aren't exactly safe).  I'm getting a show start since I have a few other crafting projects going at once, but I have to share this ornament we made yesterday.

 

It's too big to hang on the tree and I'm still tweaking the curls, but I love the effect :-) I'll be making more later today.

Our first building project

I'm in love with so many of the projects on Ana White's website (formerly Knock-Off Wood) and Mike and I have a long list of the pieces we want to build. If you've looked at my Current Projects page, you know that we're building beds for the kids. We wanted to do a "warm up" project before jumping straight into  building the beds so this weekend we tackled the Rustic Modern Console, which will serve as our familiy's seasonal table. Here is our finished project:

This was a super easy build. Picking out the lumber and sanding were  the most time consuming tasks. The whole project cost a little under $40 (the lumber was about $20, we had to buy screws and a counterskink bit and ingredients for the finish). We used pine boards which we finished with a homemade finish  (1 part local beeswax to about 3 parts oil. We used Walnut oil with some lavender essential oil added in).

 

Now I just need to find some baskets for the shelf! I can't wait to see how we'll decorate our nature table through the years :-)

WIP Wednesday

A bit late in the day, but better late than not at all ;-)

 

Knitting has been slow lately but it's also been the savior of my sanity. Some people meditate. I knit. OK, so I meditate too... but I don't get the chance to meditate often (it's a rare a precious time whenI can find 10-15 minutes of uninterupted silence and I don't need silence to knit). So here are my WIPs for the week:
